Today, we’re going to share with you a homemade car seat cleaner, and when used correctly, it has the potential to remove the toughest dirt, grim and stains from your vehicle’s seats.

An average car seat is used several times per day. We live in a society that revolves around automobiles, so we use them for almost everything.

The problem is that car seats are known to collect food bits, spills and gunk. You can give your car seats a decent cleaning and get rid of any stains if you have a strong cleaning solution.

If you want to dramatically speed up the cleaning process, make sure to do this on a bright, sunny day. There are a few materials that you’ll need to create a powerful homemade car cleaning solution.

Materials Needed

To get started, grab:

  • A clean towel
  • Linen spray
  • Mixing bowl
  • Cleaning brush
  • Two tablespoons of dish soap
  • Two cups of hot water
  • Two tablespoons of washing soda

The Cleaning Process

You’ll want to start the process off with a quick vacuuming of the seats. You can also use a dry brush to gently wipe the seats. Next, mix all of the ingredients together inside of the bowl.

The dish soap works very well because it’s gentle but effective. It will remove grease stains and refresh the fabric. The washing soda is also a great ingredient. Most importantly, both of these materials are safe to use on car seats.

The hot water helps to mend the other ingredients together, so you’ll end up with a strong cleaning solution for your car seats.

To start cleaning, dip your brush into the cleaning mixture. Use a circular motion to work the brush over the seats. The goal isn’t to soak the fabric completely. You just want to slightly dampen the fabric, so you can lift any stains that are present.

Once you’ve finished using the brush and cleaner to remove stains and grime from every seat, use a dry towel to wipe the seats down. When the entire process is finished, you can roll all of the windows down and let the seats air dry.

For an incredibly fresh smell, wait until the seats have dried and give them a light spritz with linen spray.

Tougher Cleaning Solutions

Depending on the situation, you might need some hardcore cleaners for your car seat. Fortunately, there is no shortage of products to choose from.

Some great commercial products to consider are the Tuff Scrub with scrub cap, Meguiar’s Carpet upholstery cleaner and Blue Magic carpet stain and spot lifter. For vinyl materials, consider Bestop soft top and vinyl cleaner.

These are some of the best homemade and commercial car seat cleaners available. The homemade solutions tend to be gentler on fabrics but might not be able to remove the toughest stains. Consider purchasing some commercial products for the toughest stains.
