Crazy glue is another name for super glue, and although it works very well for holding things together, it’s not the best compound to have stuck in the wrong places. Crazy glue has the power to stick to virtually any surface, which makes it incredibly versatile.
However, if it gets stuck on the wrong surface, it can be quite difficult to remove. With the right knowledge, you’ll have an easier time removing the glue.
There are at least four difference surfaces that crazy glue accidently gets stuck to.
Removing Crazy Glue from Skin
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to end up with crazy glue on your fingers. To remove the glue, grab a cotton ball and soak it in acetone. Since acetone is very effective at dissolving adhesives, it works particularly well for removing super glue.
You can rub the acetone on the dry glue and wait a few seconds. The acetone will dramatically soften the glue and make it easy to remove. In most cases, it’s very easy to use the acetone found in nail polish remover.
It’s important to never use acetone where it could potentially enter your body. For example, don’t use it on your eyes, nose or mouth. As an alternative method, you can soak your skin in warm soapy water.
Remove Crazy Glue from Fabric
If you’re unfortunate enough to end up with super glue on your clothes or furniture, you can gently scrub some acetone on it. However, make sure that the acetone won’t cause damage to the fabric.
You can put one to two drops of acetone onto a small brush and use it to scrub the glue. You might not be able to remove all of the glue, but you should be able to remove most of it.
It’s important to never use acetone on fabrics that are made with natural fur, wool or silk. Also avoid using it on fabrics made with triacetate, acetate and modacrylic. If you’re don’t know what type of fabric you have, place a small dab of acetone on the fabric and wait five minutes to see if it causes damage.
Unfortunately, crazy glue can be extremely difficult to remove from fabrics, so there is a chance that you won’t be able to remove all of it.
Remove Crazy Glue from Floors and Benchtops
If you use super glue inside of your home, there is a chance that it will end up on the floor – where it shouldn’t be. When the glue is stuck to your floor, soften it with some acetone. For hard surfaces, such as tables, countertops and floors, you should have no problem softening the glue with acetone.
You can use a cotton swab to soak the glue and cause it to dissolve. Once the glue has softened enough, you should have no trouble removing it with a rag.
You should always be extremely careful if you must use acetone on painted surfaces because it can dissolve paint on contact.
In other words, if you don’t want to repaint the surface, don’t use acetone on it. Once you’ve weakened the super glue with acetone, go ahead and use a putty scraper to scrape it off. You can even use a dull knife to accomplish the same goal.
Not all crazy glue will come off with some acetone, so you might need to use a scrape and apply some force to get it removed. You should never press your scraper directly into the surface. Instead, push it across the surface.
Remove Crazy Glue from Glass
When super glue gets stuck on glass, it can be more than irritating. First, you’ll want to paint the glass with acetone and loosen the glue. In most situations, acetone works extremely well to dissolve the glue and allow you to remove it.
You can use a cotton swab to apply the acetone directly to the glue. After a few applications, the glue should begin to soften. You should never use acetone on plexi glass alternatives that are made from plastic because it will eat away at these materials.
As an alternative, you can use warm soapy water to soften the glue. This is particularly useful if you have two pieces of glass that are stuck together with crazy glue.
You can soak the materials in the warm soapy water for about 20 minutes, and it should soften the glue enough to carefully pry the pieces of glass apart.
You can even use toothpaste as a gentle abrasive to remove super glue from glass but don’t expect to get amazing results with toothpaste.
Krazy glue is an extremely versatile product, but with great power, comes great responsibility. Acetone tends to serve as the best way to weaken and remove the glue, and since it can be used on many different surfaces, it’s also incredibly versatile.
When handling acetone, it’s important to never use it around an open flame because it’s extremely flammable. Also, make sure to use it in an area that is well ventilated.
